An Inside Look at the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology

The NIU college of Engineering and Engineering Technology (CEET) was an effective setting for Dean Promod Vohra to remark on the school's goals, current program focus and to look at global trends.

He began his talk by noting that the CEET is working to prepare functional, rational grads for industry. This is key as entrepreneurship and innovation play a strong role as we look to the future. He stressed that it is time to better understand our global competitors in order to get the greatest advantage.

Vohra introduced questions that businesses need to consider in planning for the future by always looking at optimization or the best use of existing resources. The CEET partners with almost 200 companies to help them do this. This arrangement is good for the businesses and also good for the students and results in practical improvements for the partners and an employment rate of almost 100% for the graduates.

Examples of partnerships were highlighted in a video; some student extra-curricular projects were reviewed; the Engineer in Residence Program was profiled; and programs targeted at middle school and high school students were introduced.

It is clear that the NIU College of Engineering and Engineering Technology is working hard to break old mindsets by focusing on the development of collaborative relationships with industry.
