Incentives: What do companies ask for? What should communitites give?

 

“INCENTIVES: What do companies ask for? What should communities give?” was the title of the Business Roundtable held at the DeKalb County Farm Bureau on March 9th. Lori Clark, NIU External Affairs;Teresa Nortillo, Nortillo & Associates, Hoffman Estates; and Mike Weber, PGAV of St. Louis were the speakers featured at the meeting. Mr. Weber gave a presentation entitled: "The Application of Tax Increment Financing in Illinois," in which he outlined basic facts about TIF. He discussed how TIF works, who is eligible, and the process involved in setting up TIF districts. Click here to download a copy of this presentation. Ms. Clark then presented an overview of workforce development programs in Illinois. She talked about resources available to both employers and employees and offered her assistance in applying for these programs. The handout from this presentation can be downladed here. Ms. Nortillo gave a presentation about the site selection process and the impact of incentives. She discussed market trends in the midwest before outlining what site selectors desire before inquiring about incentives. She emphasized that different industries consider several factors when relocating or establishing a business. The speakers and audience then participated in a question and answer session which engaged further discussion about the topics that were presented.
