April 8, 2008 Economic Outlook Breakfast
DCEDC’s Economic Outlook Breakfast had a registration of more than 225 individuals who enjoyed a buffet breakfast
at the DeKalb County Farm Bureau before settling in to listen to James Glassman, Managing Director and
Senior Economist, JP Morgan Chase & Co, talk about the state of the economy.
Glassman addressed current challenges - most notably housing, building and the financial markets - but
overall pronounced the economy as “doing fine”. He cited health care, exporting and agriculture as segments that
are doing particularly well and noted that the global economy is strong.
Looking to the future, Glassman’s message was to anticipate cautious hiring, few layoffs, some financial
system overhauls and an uptick in the economy this summer when those rebate checks are put to good use.
